Last night Mata insisted on waking me. I’d gone to bed early, both because I was strangely exhausted, and because I thought that if I’d already had enough sleep, maybe being woken up at 4 am would feel exciting, rather than a bother. I still tried to ignore her, not reward her, hoping she’d stop.
Meow! She said. Now! I’m not kidding! Wake up!
Finally I rolled over, to tell her yes, yes, I hear you. To reach out a hand for connection. I opened my eyes and saw a massive white light flooding my room.
What the heck?
It was the moon, almost perfectly round, framed by the one clear window in the branches of the massive fir trees between me and the lake. This, I thought, was worth waking up for. Thanks, Mata. You were right.
Both as a visual celestial phenomena and as an element of woo, this full moon is worth waking up for. It’s closer than usual to the earth, the second ‘super moon’ this month. The brightness at 4 am was spectacular. Tonight It’s full, and will slip into the shadow of the earth soon after it rises again here on the west coast.
Woo-wise, a full moon is a great time to slow down and be present with yourself, with your emotions, your physical sensations, your desires. Some spiritual traditions hold that a full moon amplifies your prayers. This full moon in particular, according to astrologers, will amplify prayers about health and money.
I didn’t know that, this morning, as I started to pray.
Here’s what my prayers looked like: Pulling the moon into my arms. Swallowing it directly into my throat, my belly, my lungs. Letting it run down the long bones of my legs. Sinking down until my feet touched bottom. Pushing off.
I never did get back to sleep.
Good for Mata waking you up. She is a very wise cat
I have always loved the moon. It makes such sense thY a full moon, esp a super moon would amplify prayers
